This is going to be the first of a series of posts that I will hopefully be uploading every or every second Monday! What I intend to do, is select a particular type of product, gather a few different brands of that particular product, compare and contrast them and then pick my top 3! This week’s “Product War” is going to be on drugstore lip-balms. I know I have only just recently done a review on a lipbalm from the Handmade Soap Co., however I won’t be including this lip-balm in my selection as I have only been using it for a few days and it wouldn’t be fair to the other lip-balms… (I have a strange logic).
I’m the type of person, who will go into a supermarket or pharmacy and I will just pick up a lip balm completely as an impulse purchase along with the rest of my shopping. I find that you can never have too many lip balms.. and they will always be used at some stage. Today I’m just going to pick 7 out of my embarrassingly huge lip balm collection and out of those I will pick 3 favourites. These 7 lip balms are the ones that I seem to use most and therefore I will have sufficient information about them to give a proper review.
The selection of lip balms I have chosen to go to war are: (Drruuuuuuuuuuumrolllllll)……
1) Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm: Burt’s Bees have always been famous for their soothing natural ingredients and this product is no different. It has a very fresh minty smell which makes my lips tingle (in a good way). It has no colour transfer on the lips and lets face it the packaging is just so damn trendy…it somehow makes bees look cool. I pop this on before and after I go for a long walk or jog to protect my lips against the cold and harsh winds and it most definitely does the job.
2)Nivea Pure & Natural in Milk & Honey: I like the tube-form packaging. I find that it’s handier to carry around with me and my hands don’t get all sticky. The formula comes out clear. The smell is nice. Not the most moisturising of the lot but I find it to be really good to apply throughout the day.. even over lipstick
3) Carmex in Cherry flavour: This is by far the nicest smelling lip balm I have ever used.. and it tastes nice… but shhhh. I find it to be really really moisturising and I usually apply a huge amount of this on my lips before I go to bed and in the morning… voila.. sexy-ass lips.
4)Cath Kidson Lip Gloss in Rose: This smells so amazing (but you really need to be a fan of rose) this is more of a sticky formula (which I’m not to fond of) BUT it is very mositurising aaand the packaging is darn pretty.
5)Nivea Sos Lip balm: This comes in a fun pushy-tube esque packaging (excuse the poor english there) It says SOS and it really means it.. if your lips are sore then this lip balm will really help. The only thing I’m not too fond of is that it leaves a slight white-ish residue on my lips which is perhaps not the most attractive thing in the world… so I would only really use this at home and at night time.
6) Natural Beeswax Lip Therapy: This is by no particular brand in particular, I just picked it up in my local pharmacy. It is made by just completely natural Beeswax and is very very nourishing. I find this to be great in the cold winter (well anytime in Ireland really) months when it’s windy and my lips hate me. The formula is nice and soft on my lips, not sticky, no residue but its not the nicest smell or taste in the world… (not that you’re supposed to be tasting it in the first place)
7) La ROCHE-POSAY Nutritic for lips: This is probably the most pricey of the lot but it is worth it. This is my go to lip balm when my lips are at their most chapped or sore. It completely restores and relieves them and literally gets to work after the first application. It also lasts for a long time on my lips and I find it to be a great moisturising base for under my lipsticks.
After careful consideration and hours and hours of tests in the laboratory ( not really), I have finally narrowed down these lip balms to just my top 3. While I love each of the lip balms above for their own special reasons.. there were three that stood out more so than the rest and these 3 are the ones that I would really recommend to buy!
At First place, I have decided to select the dazzling and amazing Carmex in Cherry
Second place, I selected Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
And lastly in Third place, I chose La ROCHE-POSAY Nutritic for lips.
I hope this helped you when it comes to selecting your lip balm in the near future. I just wanted to say as a little side note by the way.. I also use the good ol’ trusty Vaseline lip balm.. however for the sake of this post I wanted to pick kind of different and more interesting products. Oh and also, in conjunction with using a lip balm, I would also recommend that you exfoliate your lips once a day either with a dry toothbrush or a lip scrub such as the ones from Lush.
That’s all for now guys! Until next time, thank you for reading and bye! Kx 🙂
