Glasses… the new on-trend accessory to be dayum proud of!

Hey guys,

Today’s post is going to be a little bit different than my usual “beauty product” related posts! A few days ago, I actually witnessed a young girl no older than about 9 years being bullied because of her glasses and this wasn’t even the first time that i’ve seen this happen. It really annoyed me and I found this quite strange due to current popularity in the glasses-wearing trend and I thought society were even beginning to embrace the sexiness of glasses. In 2011 in particular, we saw a rise in the trendiness of “nerdy clothing and in turn glasses. There are even glasses that you can buy now that have just normal glass in the frames.. so people who don’t even need prescription glasses can wear this trendy accessory….Look who’s “four eyes” now is all I can say.

Picture of the ever "Trendy" no glass "glasses"... trendy or just plain silly?!?

Over a year ago, I was prescribed with an astigmatism by my optician… which means that I know have to wear glasses when I read, go on the laptop, watch tv.. basically anything that involves me to strain my eyes in any way. I admit at first I was reluctant to get glasses.. they are a pretty big change to get used to. HOWEVER after a few months they really started to grow on me and now I completely embrace them. The key is to pick a frame that not only suits your face but also a frame that makes you feel comfortable and confident in. Personally, I wanted to make a statement with my glasses.. so I chose quite thick-rimmed black frames but you can literally choose from so many styles if that’s not your thang!

I know this post is a bit rambly and may sound pointless.. but I just want to kinda show that we shouldn’t be ashamed of glasses. We should be showing the youth of today that glasses are nothing to tease about and can in fact actually be cool.

SO if you wear glasses…work that shizz and embrace them!

Would love to hear if any of you have any had any bother over wearing glasses? Or what your thoughts are on the matter?

Thanks for reading guys and until next time Byeeee! Kx 🙂

  1. I’ve actually been wearing glasses since I was 9! So it’s been more than 10 years for me! I used to hate wearing glasses because I looked like a nerd… but these few years so many celebs started wearing glasses just for the heck of it! I’ve started to embrace glasses since I can’t live without them! There are also so many different styles to choose from, it can really be an accessory for us to be proud of!

    1. That’s such a brilliant comment! Thanks so much, I’m glad you agree that they can be an accessory.. and youre so right.. the fact that celebritys now wear them makes them that bit more attractive to people! Thanks so much for your comment! 🙂

  2. You look great in glasses. Yes! Embrace your glasses. They are sexy!! I just hate taking pictures in them because they reflect and they hide my eye makeup!

    1. Thank you so much!! 🙂 It’s so lovely to hear that you think they are sexy too! Yeah I completely understand about the camera glare its tricky… I found that using my webcam was much better as there isn’t any flash involved! Thanks again for your lovely comment! 🙂

  3. Can’t listen to the rotten kids out there! If it isn’t glasses they are teasing about, it’s just something else. The only way to overcome a bully is to show them that they can’t tear you down.

I wear fake glasses all the time. Why? Because they are freaking cool and I personally think I look better in them! Some people don’t realize they are fake until they see me without them. Guess who gives me the hardest time? People who do need to wear glasses!! They always call me out for wearing them. See, bullies will pick on you over anything…

Thanks for this post! I support the glasses revolution! Bigger than that, I support the anti-bully revolution! As long as you show off that confidence, you just wear what you like!

    1. WOW! What a great response! It’s so great to hear somebody who feels so strongly about this as I do. I completely agree with you on the bullying matter.. haters gon’ hate and all that jazz.. bullies pick on anybody who dares to be different.
I’m completely all for working the “fake glasses” and personally I think they can look so awesome. At the end of the day, people should wear whatever the hell the want!
Thanks again for reading and your support.. it put a wee smile on my noggin’ 😀

      Kate 🙂 x

      1. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was about 10, and I’ve found myself wearing them more now than ever! Keep rocking your because you look fab in them! Also, thanks for following my blog! It’s fairly new, but

    1. aw thanks so much! and I love that you really are starting to embrace yours now too! No problem, your blog is awesome so just keep it up! 🙂

  4. I like your post a lot! I’ve started wearing glasses between my last high school year and undergrad and I really didn’t feel quite right about wearing them (also astigmatism). They seemed foreign to my face… Nowadays you can see these beautiful and creative eye ware collections but I still think it feels more of a necessity than a fashion accessory statement I guess (using them for 12 years now), at least for me. You look good in them tough , that frame suits your face! I like your pictures. Thank you for addressing this issue and hopefully it might bring enlightenment to people who still bully or make fun of other people because of ‘glasses’ related issues.

    1. Hi there!
Wow thank you so much! I totally understand where you are coming from.. glasses can be such a pain sometimes.. and I even find that myself but the more that we promote them as trendy and cool the more the bullying can be reduced! At the end of the day though people are going to bully regardless.. and they always pick out people who are different! Haters gon’ hate and all that jazz! Just keep rockin your glasses with pride! 🙂
